Brown Paper Tickets

The Artist Ticket program gives our customers a way to donate to causes that we care about.

Here's how it works: if you're an event producer, you can allow your ticket buyers to purchase limited-edition tickets printed with original artwork in your event settings. The ticket buyer will pay a small, additional charge of $0.25 and receive a limited edition, collectible ticket imprinted with original artwork. The current charity of our choosing will receive 100% of the additional charge. Physical tickets must be enabled on the event.

If you're a ticket buyer, you can check to see if the limited edition ticket is available to you at the beginning of the ticket checkout process or by visiting this page. You receive a small piece of collectible art and support a valuable cause just by checking the box in the Artist Ticket widget when you're purchasing your tickets!

Participating Artists

Ellen Forney & Jim Woodring

We have chosen to launch this program with art by Jim Woodring and Ellen Forney to support the Victims of the Cafe Racer Shooting Memorial Fund, in remembrance of the tragedy that struck a chord for the artistic community in Seattle.

Ellen Forney is a cartoonist and teacher based in Seattle, Washington, whose work has been published by Fantagraphics Books and The Stranger, among other publications. Forney's “I Love Led Zeppelin” was nominated for the prestigious Eisner Award as Best Reality-Based Comic. Her most recent book “Marbles: Mania, Depression, Michelangelo, and Me: A Graphic Novel” was published by Penguin Books in November 2012 and is currently on the New York Times Bestseller list.

Jim Woodring is a Seattle-based cartoonist, fine artist, writer and toy designer. He is best know for the dream-based comics he published in his magazine “Jim” and as the creator of the anthropomorphic cartoon character Frank. He placed twice on The Comics Journal's list of the 100 best comics of the century, where the “Frank” stories ranked #55, and “The Book of Jim” which ranked #71. He has a new 360-page collection of sketchbook drawings entitled "Problematic DeLuxe" coming out in December 2012.

Current Cause

Victims of the Cafe Racer Shooting Memorial Fund

We are currently donating to the Victims of the Cafe Racer Shooting Memorial Fund. On May 30, 2012 five people were killed in a shooting spree by a lone gunman at the local Seattle artist refuge Cafe Racer. All five of the victims were in some way involved in the local artistic community: two well-loved musicians, a lighting designer, an actress and an urban-planning consultant that played saxophone.

Because of those killed and because the shooting took place in a local artistic haven, a chord was struck within the Seattle artistic community. Brown Paper Tickets' response was to launch the Artist Ticket Program, where 100,000 limited-edition tickets were imprinted with original artwork donated by nationally recognized artists and Cafe Racer regulars Jim Woodring and Ellen Forney.

Once the desired goal of $25,000 is met, the fund will continue to exist but will donate all subsequent funds to MusiCares, an organization that provides a safety net of critical assistance for those within the music community in times of need. MusiCares' services and resources cover a wide range of financial, medical and personal emergencies, and each case is treated with integrity and confidentiality. MusiCares also focuses the resources and attention of the music industry on human service issues that directly impact the health and welfare of the music community.

If you want to continue to donate to the fund after the Cafe Racer Artist Tickets are no longer available, please do so here.

Brown Paper Tickets is proud to help facilitate donations to these important causes and we look forward to donating to future causes with the Artist Ticket program. Please continue to visit this page for updates on the program and to find out which Brown Paper Tickets events are carrying the tickets.
