Welcome to this week’s Artist Ticket Picks! The Artist Ticket program gives our customers a way to donate to causes that we care about.

If you’re an event producer, you can allow your ticket buyers to purchase limited-edition tickets printed with original artwork in your event settings. The ticket buyer will pay a small, additional charge of $0.25 and receive a limited edition, collectible ticket imprinted with original artwork. The current charity of our choosing will receive 100% of the additional charge. Physical tickets must be enabled on the event.

If you’re a ticket buyer, you can check to see if the limited edition ticket is available to you at the beginning of the ticket checkout process or by visiting the Artist Ticket page. You receive a small piece of collectible art and support a valuable cause just by checking the box in the Artist Ticket widget when you’re purchasing your tickets!

Saturday, December 21 I The Winter Solstice Party with L’Orchestre d’Incroyable – Seattle, Washington

Assembled in the gray light of a Seattle winter’s eve by the shadowy lunatic, M. Incroyable, L’Orchestre D’Incroyable exists on the premise of arcane calculus, moonlit ceremony, copious poison potions, and the occasional sacrificial slaughter. L’Orchestre lulls you into a trance, and stirs your inner demons to the point of driving the body to wild and sensual shaking. Armed with a melange of musical weaponry (homemade stringed boxes, banjo, upright bass, theremin, cello, percussion, baritone guitar and more) Incroyable’s meticulous methods of hypnosis and musical abuse are certain to render any audience slave to its sonorous tonic.

Friday, December 13 I The Devil Is A Woman – Seattle, Washington

The Devil Is A Woman is the last and most stylized of the Von Sternberg/Dietrich films. Stunning in bright black and white, it’s the story of Concha Perez (“The most daaangerous woman aliiiive” drones Lionel Atwill as a bitter and broken-hearted cast-off, filling in quite nicely for Von Sternberg).

Concha begins as a poorly dressed cigarette-maker with curiously impeccable make-up and hair in 1890’s-ish “Spain.” Cesar Romero, handsome as a God, plays the gay, young patriot enthralled with Concha after seeing her in perhaps the most intriguing Spanish-comb/pom-pom/mantilla combination ever enshrined on film.

The Travis Banton costumes for Miss Dietrich are over-the-top stunners, and really her hair is worth mentioning again: an ever-changing kaleidoscope of lace, Spanish combs, spit-curls and carnations. There are a lot of squawking, messy, flapping birds, so if you get bored waiting for Miss Dietrich to show up while the plot advances (an adaptation by John Dos Passos, but you’d never know it) those birds will give you something to think about.

“There’s never been any shortage of music in the Adrienne Pierce–Ari Shine household: Vancouver native Pierce has released four-albums-plus of retro-mini epics known to fans of TV’s Grey’s Anatomy, Veronica Mars and beyond; Shine’s songwriting chops have shone on his solo releases (including last year’s Songs of Solomon) and his work as a composer. The husband-and-wife duo have collaborated before, but not under a band moniker until now, when the sometimes-L.A.-based couple decided to make music (and puns) as the Royal Oui. Friday, November 29 I A Tribute to Lou Reed and the Velvet Underground – Seattle, Washington Almost a month ago, we lost a seminal force in rock music: Lou Reed. We paid our own tribute to Lou here on the blog but tributes to Lou and his music with the Velvet Underground and solo are starting to pop up all over the country. This one at Columbia City Theater promises to be especially good with performances by Hounds of the Wild Hunt (Acoustic), Gibraltar, Bigfoot Wallace, Ruler, Ian and Rian of Invisible Shivers, Kevin Sur and guests.

Head out and pay tribute to a true pioneer in the world of rock and roll.

Saturday, November 23 I Everything Everything Everything – Tacoma, Washington Funny, thoughtful, and thoroughly contemporary, Everything Everything Everything is the story of a man and a woman who fall in love — with another woman. Can romantic rivals still be roommates? What if they’re as young as they are foolish and as poor as they are depressed?

Poet / artist Ilvs Strauss (pronounced “Elvis”) and actor / musician Wesley K. Andrews premiered this multidisciplinary show at the City Arts Festival 2012 in Seattle. Now they bringing it to Tacoma. More specifically to Urban Grace. Click here to learn more!

Wednesday, November 27 I The 3rd Annual Vogue Retorspective with Feast, Palooka and Ancient Warlocks – Seattle, Washington Feast was one of those “coulda been” groups that never broke out of the underground. Originally called Feast of Friends after a William Blake poem, the band showcased Tom Mick on vocals, Dan Blossom on guitar, Jane Higgins on bass, and Dan Peters on drums.

Feast was extremely charismatic live, with Mick playing the active front man. The band’s sound combined the Deep Six punk/metal hybrid with postpunk. In 1986 Feast had become a top draw at The Central. “Feast was always one of my favorite bands,” promoter Claudia Gehrke states in an email. “… they had a very heavy sound. I remember when I [booked a show with] Soundgarden and Feast together. Feast was the headliner at the time, and then we found out that Soundgarden was getting scoped out for a record deal. We had to switch the lineup to Soundgarden playing at the headliner time. It was a huge night. Both bands were great. Feast was a guaranteed heavy hitter. [They had] great posters, stepping out into their own brand of art and music. I wish I had seen them get signed. They always had a great crowd.”

A combo of Seattle High School Jazz All-Stars will workshop with the artists and open the concert. Presented in collaboration with Icons Among Us: Jazz in the Present Tense with support from The Argus Fund.

Friday, November 8 I Eastern Bloc Party with Ashia & The Bison Rouge, Clearly Beloved and Bucharest Drinking Team – Seattle, Washington Ashia Grzesik’s songs and compositions, written and sung with the cello, reflect her longing for her Slavic roots, while adding the pop, rock, indie folk and the classical music from the land she grew up in. This comes naturally from being born in Wroclaw, Poland, raised in the US, and performing internationally. Her belief is to bring and celebrate Polish and Slavic culture and ancestry for new audiences, as well as using the cello, non-traditionally, as an instrument of accompaniment and melodic lead.

Her sound and voice, at once ethereal and demanding, are pop/rock, yet, exude classical and folk influences. Portland Monthly said: “…one can’t help but hear a collage of influences. Grzesik can certainly give Joanna Newsom a run for her whimsy, she possesses the old-world charm and quirky dramatics of Regina Spektor and the cello-punk instincts of Bonfire Madigan, and her voice vacillates between the throaty alto of Amanda Palmer and the ethereal soprano of Maria Callas. Simply put, she’s got a little bit of everything.”

Ashia & The Bison Rouge will be performing with Clearly Beloved and the Balkan-brass insanity that is Bucharest Drinking Team! Don’t miss this one kiddies!

HALLOWEEN! Thursday, October 31 I Music Craft: Nine Inch Nails – Seattle, Washington This Portland stop was near the 2008 tour’s end for Nine Inch Nails. Reznor’s 2007-2008 albums supplied the majority of the set at the Rose Garden, where NIN played a vast musical vocabulary with transfixing lighting and set design. Part of Music Craft, Northwest Film Forum’s ongoing series featuring rare concert footage from music legends.

Thursday, October 24 I Table and Chairs presents: Trip or Treat at Columbia City Theater – Seattle, Washington Founded in 2011, Table & Chairs is an independent record label based in Seattle, Washington, collectively run by a dedicated group of active musicians and artists. In addition to promoting and releasing music, they produce concerts and organize educational outreach programs. Their purpose is to represent and unite artists and listeners who actively contribute to a forward-thinking community, wholly devoted to the advancement of New Music.

Table and Chairs is very excited to present an exciting Halloween-inspired show, which they are calling Apparitions. It will take place at Seattle’s historic Columbia City Theater next Thursday.

Opening the show will be the brand new duo comprised of alto saxophonist Jacob Zimmerman and pianist Gus Carns. Performing all original music, the duo features a unique brand of rhythmically complex improvisations. Their music is restless yet relaxed; precise yet spacious; with chaotic musical structures navigated in a flowing, intuitive way.

Following will be the newest addition to the T&C family: Burn List, a new collaboration featuring trumpeter Cuong Vu, tenor saxophonist Greg Sinibaldi, keyboardist Aaron Otheim, and drummer Chris Icasiano. This performance will be a little sneak preview for their debut album, which will be released by T&C in the Winter of early 2014. Be on the lookout!

This fall concert will be especially fun because Table and Chairs is presenting a wonderful new Portland-based noise group Pinkish, which features Andrew Jones (Upright Bass), Ryan A. Miller (Electric Guitar, Electric 12-string Guitar), Kyle Shipp (Electric Guitar) and Grant Pierce (Drum set). Portland is pretty wonderful and has some amazing musicians, so T&C decided it would be a great opportunity to collaborate with Portland’s Creative Music Guild and have them send a band up here to throw down!

Finally, King Tears Bat Trip. Yeah. Did we mention that Ted Poor will be a special guest? Yeah.

Wednesday, October 16 I Future Fridays at Columbia City Theater – Seattle, Washington Expect great things from the new Seattle duo Future Fridays. Future Fridays is the indie pop project of Sari Breznau and Eric Padget. Sari is a former member of the Circus Contraption and both Sari and Eric play in the Balkan brass band Orkestar Zirkonium. But, Future Fridays is nothing like either project. Infectious indie pop, quirky songwriting and duelling male/female vocals. Who could ask for more? Check out “Dream Big” on their Bandcamp page.
