BPT’s Resident Roller Girl Re-Caps the Derby World Cup in Toronto!

Earlier this month our resident roller girl Michelle Sunnyday (aka Sunny Wytha Chansapain – 100% of the Tilted Thunder Rail Birds)  attended the inaugural Derby World Cup. This was a historical event for the derby community with teams from thirteen countries competing for the title of World Champion. We ticketed the event, our Alternative Sports Doer Bob Noxious organized the announcing, and Michelle was there spreading the love to our beloved derby community. Here’s her re-cap:

On December 1st through 3rd, Blood & Thunder Magazine hosted the Roller Derby World Cup. I was lucky enough to be able to attend and serve as an ambassador for Brown Paper Tickets. There were teams from all over the world including Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, England, France, Finland, Germany, Ireland, New Zealand, Scotland, Sweden and USA.

Toronto Roller Derby was the hosting league and the whole event was handled beautifully by the league and their army of volunteers. No one had any idea how well it would be recieved, but attendance exceeded everyone’s expectations with over 2,000 people coming through the doors each day.

Supplement the Turkey Coma with a Side of Derby

The holidays are almost upon us and what better way to celebrate the holidays than taking the family to see your local roller derby league? We got tons of holiday themed derby events, some fundraisers, some training events and of course, lots of bouts. Derby is always a fun and unique way to spend time with the family and your local derby teams could use your support for the upcoming holiday season.

Also starting on Thursday, December 1 in Toronto, Ontario is Blood & Thunder’s Roller Derby World Cup. This is the first Roller Derby World Cup and features teams from USA, Canada, England, Ireland, Scotland, Germany, Finland, Sweden, France, Australia, New Zealand, Brazil and Argentina. Proof positive that the derby revival has become a worldwide obsession. Our Alternative Sports Doer Bob Noxious will be in the house helping out along with resident roller-girl Michelle Sunnyday (aka Sunny With A Chance of Pain of the Tilted Thunder Railbirds). This is going to be a great event where international derby teams can not only compete with each other but also network and learn from fellow derby enthusiasts. If you love derby, get your tickets here, head out to Toronto and be a part of what promises to be the derby event of the year.

BPT Mixtape #13 – Michelle’s the Baddest of the Bad

Our resident roller-girl Michelle is one tough cookie and she’s put together a playlist of tunes that get her pumped up to hit the track and kick some butt with the Tilted Thunder Railbirds. She’s got a great sampling of killer punk rock, metal and raw rock n’ roll and I figured this would be a great soundtrack for you all to get ready for the work week. While you might not be risking a dislocated shoulder or a black eye, sometimes we all can feel a little beat up from our daily lives.

Here’s what Michelle has to say: “This is the playlist I put on my MP3 player before a bout. Gets me amped up and ready to tear it up out on the track. Enjoy!

So, whether you’re a fellow roller-girl or just need a little adrenaline-shot to get you ready to face the nine to five, this is the mix for you.
