Friday, November 30 Chambr at Birmingham Jazz Red Lion UAB, Birmingham Chambr is an acoustic ensemble combining violin, viola, cello, double bass, guitar and percussion led by award winning guitarist/composer Nick Tyson. Diverse influences from jazz, downbeat, classical chamber, folk and middle-eastern traditions are explored within Tyson’s delicate writing to produce an exciting new voice for British music.
Friday, November 30 Cornish Bird Lassco/The Ropewalk, London For those in the know, Cornish Bird is a 1920s pop-up bar and dining room hidden in the shadows of the Maltby Street arches. A ruinous place where top chefs stoke the coals and Little Bird Gin’s crack team of bartenders serve classic cocktails. With a little help from jamon experts Tozino and a few of London’s niftiest chefs, join Fitzgerald at the bar and Hemingway at the dinner table for a night of revelry and fun. The Gin Bar opens at 6pm sharp with a special cocktail list, some great red and white wines, Prosecco and London Fields handcrafted beers.
Friday, November 30 Gallon Drunk // Kochka // Jacob Yates & the Pearly Gate Lock Pickers Nice N’ Sleazy, Glasgow Often compared to dark and brooding sounds of such artists as Tom Waits, Nick Cave, PJ Harvey, and Morphine, the London quartet Gallon Drunk originally formed in 1990 but went their separate ways. Now they’re back & on tour with a new album released in May this year – “The Road Gets Darker from Here”. Led by singer and organist James Johnston, also a key member of Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, Gallon Drunk feature a similarly dark and foreboding take on Doors-influenced indie rock, but in place of Cave’s obsessions with religious imagery, Johnston is a more literal lyricist with an occasionally jaundiced eye towards romance. Support from Jacob Yates & The Pearly Gate Lockpickers – Blues Rock which will scare you into dancing beyond redemption. And Kochka – Quite a special group they are! Expect maniacal sounds of the devil which’ll convince you to waltz like a crazed Cossack on Moonshine!
