Welcome to this week’s Artist Ticket Picks! The Artist Ticket program gives our customers a way to donate to causes that we care about.

If you’re an event producer, you can allow your ticket buyers to purchase limited-edition tickets printed with original artwork in your event settings. The ticket buyer will pay a small, additional charge of $0.25 and receive a limited edition, collectible ticket imprinted with original artwork. The current charity of our choosing will receive 100% of the additional charge. Physical tickets must be enabled on the event.

If you’re a ticket buyer, you can check to see if the limited edition ticket is available to you at the beginning of the ticket checkout process or by visiting the Artist Ticket page. You receive a small piece of collectible art and support a valuable cause just by checking the box in the Artist Ticket widget when you’re purchasing your tickets!

Thursday, February 13 I Seattle Women in Jazz Festival presents: Clave Gringa featuring Ann Reynolds & EntreMundos Quarteto – Seattle, Washington

Seattle Women in Jazz is the first organization of its kind locally to specifically highlight some of Seattle’s best jazz artists and bands, led by and/or comprised of women. Seattle Women in Jazz also works to engage youth in the art of jazz, to honor our elders of jazz, and to reach out to potential new audience members and those who would not otherwise get to attended a jazz concert. The organization produces an annual festival, workshops and a quarterly music series.

Reserved candlelit tables are available with advance tickets. Dessert, fizzy drinks, etc. will be available for purchase. All are welcome though, this isn’t a specifically couples event!

Starts Thursday, February 20 I The Minstrel Show Revisited – Seattle, Washington

This production is a reworking of Artistic Director Donald Byrd’s award winning 1991 production The Minstrel Show – a satirical look at the often derogatory song-and-dance tradition of minstrelsy.

With traditional and popular music from the minstrelsy period by Scott Joplin and Stephen Foster, this updated show for the Company’s 2013/4 season also includes original music from renowned composer Mio Morales.

Byrd, in a January 1992 Los Angeles Times interview, said his motivation in creating the original work was “not to authentically or historically recreate minstrel shows, but to make something that has a feeling of minstrel shows and is structured somewhat like them with more contemporary sensibility.”

In The Minstrel Show Revisited, he writes, “while the racially-motivated slaying of Yusef Hawkins was the impetus for the creation of the original piece, in light of the recent Trayvon Martin slaying and George Zimmerman acquittal it seems necessary and timely to revisit it.”

This production is part of Spectrum Dance Theater’s 2013-4 America: Sex, Race & Religion season, exploring three quintessential preoccupations of the American psyche.
