So, without further ado, here are this week’s Artist Ticket picks:

Friday, November 29 I A Tribute to Lou Reed and the Velvet UndergroundSeattle, Washington   Almost a month ago, we lost a seminal force in rock music: Lou Reed. We paid our own tribute to Lou here on the blog but tributes to Lou and his music with the Velvet Underground and solo are starting to pop up all over the country. This one at Columbia City Theater promises to be especially good with performances by Hounds of the Wild Hunt (Acoustic), Gibraltar, Bigfoot Wallace, Ruler, Ian and Rian of Invisible Shivers, Kevin Sur and guests.

Head out and pay tribute to a true pioneer in the world of rock and roll.

Saturday, November 30 I Cock and Swan, Suzanne Perry and LevatorSeattle, WashingtonCock-And-Swan1

Now a decade into their partnership, Johnny and Ola started making music together in 2003 on a Tascam 4-track in Bothell, Washington. Reconfiguring their white brick bunker by the Slough (aka the Sammamish River) into a makeshift studio, they wrote and recorded all of Cock & Swan’s material within these close confines. A recent move to West Seattle promises grander musical endeavors for the duo, yet the Cock & Swan sound remains firmly rooted in a hazy, enveloping aesthetic propelled by analog synthesizers, unplanned samples, muted drums, and faded colors.

292967-250Thursday, December 5 I ALM presents the Filmstock iFest ScreeningTempe, Arizona

This is the screening of iFest Challenge films, where competitors had to use a phone to make a movie!

This 48 hour filmmaking competition features the use of mobile devices to tell a story! This challenge levels the playing field for all experience levels to show off their storytelling abilities.

The iFest gives filmmakers an opportunity to create films without the use of professional gear, equipment or personnel. Instead, they can only use a device that they carry around in their pocket every day- their phone! Whether the filmmakers are just starting out or are seasoned professional, the iFest gives them an opportunity to look at storytelling through a unique lens and have their work shown on the big screen.

This screening will show the final results of the competition and will show how great art can be created with the simplest of tools.

Saturday, December 14 I The Bushwick Book Club Seattle at Columbia City TheaterSeattle, Washington  292182-250

The Bushwick Book Club Seattle presents original music inspired by David Byrnes’ How Music Works. Performers Include: Wayne Horvitz, Nate Bogopolsky, Beth Fleenor, Alex Guy, Kimo Muraki, Aaron Shay, Jason Goesel, Tamara Power Drutis, Aaron Daniel, Miles and Karina, Holly Small and more.

The Bushwick Book Club Seattle is a group of musicians dedicated to sharing our combined passion for both music and reading with the Seattle community and beyond. With each performance, a book is chosen which is read by the talented Bushwick artists who then write original music inspired by the book they just read. The audience is encouraged to read the featured book and participate in the events as well. By producing these unique, one of a kind musical literary events the Club hopes to increase awareness in literature and song writing, while at the same time remind people (young and old) that reading can and should be a regular part of their daily lives.

Additionally, the Bushwick Book Club Seattle offers youth programs to work with children on critical thinking and songwriting skills.
