Free Vinyl for the Masses

Did you get your free vinyl last weekend?

Record Store Day is a relatively new holiday based on some strongly-held, old school sentiments that ring true here in Seattle. Brown Paper Tickets isn’t a record store or a record label but we do indeed have a record for record store day. This very special double LP compilation The Right to DIY features artists that work for or with Brown Paper Tickets and encompasses a wide range of musical styles as well as spoken word performance.

I have heard more than one vinyl-head, DJ and record hoarder say that everyday should be Record Store Day. For example, one of my favorite office mates (who shall remain nameless) often forgoes his lunch and wanders across the Fremont bridge only to return with a tell-tale square bag containing his latest yield. I say wander but march is probably more accurate because he usually paces out of the office like a ninja on a mission.

To put out a full album on vinyl or a 7″ inch is a dream for so many musicians that I have met in Seattle. These people form something unique that speaks about who they are as musicians out of the sounds, pictures and words floating around in their minds. The fact that the artists on this album have allowed us to share their hard work with you and give it away for free is nothing short of amazing.

We partnered with these fine Seattle record stores to give out our records on Record Store Day:

Everyday Music 1523 10th Avenue Seattle, WA 98122

Easy Street Records 20 Mercer St, Seattle, WA 98109

Georgetown Records 1201 Vale Street, Seattle, WA 98108

Jive Time Records 3506 Fremont Ave. N Seattle WA, 98103
