Happy 30th Birthday Unexpected Productions!

Arts >

Here at Brown Paper Tickets, we love seeing independent producers succeed. It was the inspiration for starting the company: to create a platform where independent producers can network and share events and, as a result, expand their network of supporters and become self-sufficient.

When one of our producers is celebrating their 30th anniversary, it’s reason for us to celebrate as well. So, we’re busting out the the champagne because our friends over at Unexpected Productions are celebrating their 30th year in existence with a 30 hour “improvathon” which will take place from 6pm this Friday, June 28 to 12am on Sunday, June 29. That’s 30 hours of non-stop improv with only a 5 minute break every hour. When was the last time you laughed for 30 hours straight? This is going to be historical folks. Don’t miss it.

But wait, there’s more! Audience members who make it through the whole thing will get a lifetime pass to see any Unexpected Productions show! So, get caught up on your sleep now, load up on some delicious Seattle coffee and get ready for some improv.

History

Unexpected Productions started in 1983 in a Chinese restaurant in the Pioneer Square neighborhood and has since evolved into a leader in the Seattle improv scene. Practically every improv troupe in the city boasts Unexpected Productions alumni: Jet City Improv, Blood Squad and ComedySportz just to name a few.

Now located in Unexpected Productions’ Market Theater in Seattle’s historic Pike Place Market (right by the infamous “gum wall”), Unexpected Productions has created well over 150 original shows including Seattle TheatreSports, the first TheatreSports in the United States, and Seattle’s longest running show….ever!

They are also notable in that they have operated successfully in the black as a non-profit theater for three decades, getting their funds almost exclusively through ticket sales and we couldn’t be prouder to be their chosen ticketing service.

So, if you’re in Seattle this weekend, get down to the Unexpected Productions’ Market Theater, bring some snacks, some caffeine, possibly a blanket and pillow and settle in for some serious laughs, thirty hours worth. Just look for the gum wall and you’re there!
