Jimmy’s No. 43 Brings Beer Love to the Big Apple

Food & Drink >

The good folks over at Jimmy’s No. 43 know their beer. Located in the East Village in New York City, Jimmy’s currently has 12 beers on tap and 23 bottled beers all ranging from local IPAs to German Kolsch to Belgian Tripels. They were awarded “Best Beer” by AOL Cityguide in 2008 and named Forbe’s Favorite New York Pub in 2009. Not only that, they host tastings with local brewers and even host a beer talk radio show called Beer Sessions.

Now, Jimmy’s isn’t a pub that focuses on beer and passes stale pretzels off as food. Oh no! They also have a killer menu of beer-friendly local and organic foods like skillet fried beer sausage, hanger steak and a pulled pork sandwich that sounds freakin’ amazing. You know it’s good ’cause our friends over at Slow Food NYC awarded them the Snail of Approval which is awarded to restaurants and bars in “recognition of their contributions to the quality, authenticity and sustainability of the food supply of the City of New York.” Quite an honor.

On top of all this they’ve been putting on some great food and beer events and we’re honored that they’ve chosen Brown Paper Tickets to ticket their events. Some past events have been a pig butchering demo and lunch, a sorbet and beer pairing, and a “Shuck and Talk” with oyster grower Karen Rivara. They’ve got a lot more in store as well. Check it out:

Saturday, March 26, 2011 Brisket Cook-Off Jimmy’s No. 43 hosts a Brisket Cookoff along with Anne Hauck and Jonathon Deutsch of Gastropolis and Jake Schiffman of The Food Network. Amateur and professional chefs will prepare their favorite brisket with the winners being decided by a panel of judges and by the people’s choice.

Wednesday, May 4, 2011 Duck Goose Dinner with Greg Hall of Goose Island Chicago beer brewer Greg Hall of Goose Island Brewery will pair limited Goose Island brews with a four course duck menu created specifically for the beers. There will also be a special bread made from Goose Island’s “Pere Jacques” Belgian ale.

Saturday, April 16, 2011 April Sours Jimmy’s celebrates the arrival of spring with an event that focuses on sour and lambic beers. There will be traditional lambics and flemish reds from Belgium, Berliner Weisse from Germany and the best sour/wild yeast beers from Italy, Canada and America. Thre will also be a special menu designed to pair with these unique and refreshing brews.

You can find out more about Jimmy’s and the great events they host on their blog. A great read for all the food and beer lovers out there, even if you don’t live in New York.
