Happy Monday everyone! Have you made plans for your week yet? Well, there’s no shortage of film festivals going on this week all across the country. Cleveland, Burbank, Tucson, San Francisco, Chico and St. Louis all have film festivals going on: a couple Jewish film festivals, a festival with a focus on environmental issues, a Latino film festival and one dedicated to underground exploitation, cult and horror films. Mandel Jewish Community Center’s Leondard Krieger Cleveland Jewish FilmFest – Cleveland, Ohio Now in its fourth year, this Cleveland film festival showcases the best in international Jewish cinema. The festival started on September 8 but goes until the 19th. Upcoming films include Holy Rollers showing on Thursday, September 15 and starring Jessie Eisenberg and a documentary about legendary Klezmer band The Klezmatics, On Holy Ground screening on Sunday, September 18.

Burbank International Film Festival 2011 – Burbank, California This festival starts on Thursday, September 15 and runs through Sunday, September 18 with a mission of promoting fresh pieces of cinema by up and coming filmmakers from around the world. Not only will there be film screenings but there is also a red carpet, rocking parties, seminars and Sonic Soundoff!, a mini-music festival/competition that starts tonight and culminates in the Grand Finale on Sunday, September 18 with the audience-picked winners from each night performing.

Arizona Underground Film Festival – Tuscon, Arizona Now in its fourth year, The Arizona Underground Film Festival is Arizona’s only underground cult film festival and strives to showcase the work of filmmakers with “defiantly” independent visions. The festival starts on Friday, September 16 and runs through the 24th with a focus on narrative films, horror films, documentaries, experimental films, animation and exploitation films. They are proud to be the only festival that features an exploitation category. Films include Executive Producer John Landis‘ (Blues Brothers, An American Werewolf in London) horror comedy Some Guy Who Kills People and Dragonslayer, winner of the Grand Jury Award for Best Documentary Feature at the SXSW Film Festival, about skateboard legend Josh “Skreech” Sandoval.

Cine+Mas SF Latino Film Festival – San Francisco, California This film festival showcases the works of emerging and established filmmakers from the U.S., Latin America, Spain and Portugal. Films include Being: Cafe Tacvba, a behind-the-scenes look at the iconic Mexican rock band and A Stone’s Throw Away about a lonely Mexican goat herder that finds a keychain in the desert with an address in Oregon, and his subsequent voyage across the border to the U.S. to reach his destination.

5th Annual Wild and Scenic Film Festival – Chico, California This film festival will be held at the Sierra Nevada Brewing Company’s Big Room on Friday, September 16th and features six films, music, a buffet and silent auction. Films focus on issues such as plastic bags and their effect on the environment, urban agriculture, fly fishing and salmon migration. All proceeds from the festival benefit Friends of Butte Creek, which supports the largest run of wild, naturally spawned Spring Run Chinook in California.

St. Louis Jewish Film Festival – St. Louis, Missouri The St. Louis Jewish Film Festival is celebrating its 16th year and focuses on the impact Jewish culture has had on current movies and film makers. This Sunday, September 18, they are presenting a Family Film Festival featuring films for children of all ages. Films will be accompanied by hands-on activities and special guests. Films include Sixty-Six starring Helena Bonham Carter and The Wave.
