You may manage to be more organized, but where’s the fun in that?

If you want to make a resolution that you know you are not only going to keep but have fun keeping, resolve to go see more burlesque! To help you out, here are some wonderful shows that are coming up in the very near future.

Tuesday Tease: Seattle’s Monthly Burlesque Revue – Sanctuary

This week on the Tuesday Tease, we feature a review of Seattle-based Gossamer Wing Productions’ August installment of the monthly show “Sanctuary.” Gossamer Wing Productions was formed by burlesque performer/producer Whisper De Corvo, an up-and-coming face on the Seattle burlesque scene and “Sanctuary,” though relatively new, is already drawing some of Seattle burlesque’s top talent, so Whisper must be doing something right! We love working with inspired producers like Whisper and if you’re in Seattle we highly encourage you to check out her shows.

Our resident burlesque field correspondent James Ulness was on hand to witness the show and here’s what he had to say about it:

On Sunday, August 11, I was fortunate enough to be witness to Gossamer Wing Productions, amazing, August performance of Sanctuary at the Narwhal (in the basement of the Unicorn).

My evening started when I arrived at the Unicorn, on Seattle’s Capitol Hill. After entering, I made my way downstairs into the sideshow festooned, pinball haven that is the Narwhal. I made a brief detour to the claw machine, ordered my drink and found a seat at a beautiful, skull-painted table. After a short wait the host, Mr. Bawdy, took the stage and began two hours that were filled with every style and variety of act that you could ever hope for, from four absolutely amazing performers!

Tuesday Tease: This Week in Burlesque!

6646One thing that I love about the modern burlesque scene is that it’s constantly looking for things in popular culture to parody or pay tribute to. I mean, technically, this is what the original definition of burlesque was: “a literary, dramatic or musical work intended to cause laughter by caricaturing the manner or spirit of serious works, or by ludicrous treatment of their subjects.” This week, we have some great events that do just that. We got  a tribute to Saturday morning cartoons happening in Seattle, a Wizard of Oz-themed show set to the music of Pink Floyd in New York and a tribute to Joss Whedon in Baltimore.

Ironically, what we think of as “classic” burlesque, isn’t as much about parody as it is about sensuality and grace. We got tons of shows that feature burlesque of the early to mid 20th century variety as well. There are burlesque classes and festivals happening and even a 6th annversary party for Atlanta’s Syrens of the South! Also, Gotham Burlesque in New York is offering a special discount for this week’s show for our readers.

Basically, this week’s Tuesday Tease is just an opportunity for us to brag about the amazing producer that work with us and highlight some of the amazing burlesque events happening this weekend. I guarantee you’ll find something to get you off the couch and out supporting your local burlesque scene.

Looks like this is going to be one HOT August!

Tuesday Tease: The Sugar Frosted Crunchy Flake Friday Evening Cartoon Hour!

Sometimes, the only thing you need to do is read the title of an event to know that you are in for an amazing and unforgettable experience. Such is the case with The Sugar Frosted Crunchy Flake Friday Evening Cartoon Hour! happening next Friday, August 2 at the Rendezvous/Jewelbox Theater in Seattle.

The name alone is enough to give you a Saturday morning sugar rush that will last well into Monday afternoon! Producer, Scarlett O’Hairdye, has put together an amazing show fuelled by love, nostalgia, glitter, cartoons and breakfast cereal that is sure to conjure up fond memories of childhood while simultaneously reminding you that there are some things that are better appreciated as a grown-up.

Scarlett, who has produced burlesque shows in Seattle since 2012, drew inspiration for this production from a “love of the cartoons of [her] childhood” and put together a program of “many amazing acts that referenced those cartoons.”

Scarlett says, “I wanted to bring them all together into one show and share that love with the rest of the world in the sparkliest way possible.”

From the sound of it, she accomplished her goal and then some!

The evening’s entertainment will be hosted by Vanadium Silver and feature performances by the “Wild Child of Seattle Burlesque” Evilyn Sin Claire, Randi Rascal, Bolt Action, Scarlett O’Hairdye herself (“The Nearly Naked Nerd”) and, coming all the way up from Portland, Oregon: Kit Katastrophic. All will be presenting acts that pay tribute to and elaborate on memories and iconic imagery of our childhoods! Be ready to have your recollections of cartoons, TV commercials, breakfast cereal and Thundercats changed forever!
