This week, as summer draws to a close we want to spread the word of some last minute music festivals happening around the country. Sacramento has a great reggae festival coming up this weekend, The One Love One Heart Festival featuring some top names in the reggae world, most notably, Don Carlos, formerly of the legendary Black Uhuru and award-winning reggae vocalist Everton Blender.

Everton Blender hails from Kingston, Jamaica and started his career in the late 70s/early 80s performing with the Destiny Outernational, Master Voice and Santex sound systems. He released a handful of singles such as “Where Is Love” in 1979 and “Ba Ba Black Sheep” in 1985 but failed to reach any commercial success. He retired from music to return to his former job as a house painter.

In the early 90s Everton returned to music and signed with the Star Trail record label. This time around he achieved chart success in Jamaica with “We No Jus’ A Come.” His noteriety spread to the UK and his first album “Lift Up Your Head” enjoyed heavy rotation on the UK sound systems. Since then he has gained worldwide popularity and tours extensively performing his unique blend of roots reggae and dancehall. Everton will be the One Love One Heart Festival’s Saturday night headliner.

Don Carlos started out in the early 70s as a member of reggae legends Black Uhuru but made his name as a solo artist after releasing his solo album “Suffering” in 1981. Since then he has become a fixture on the touring reggae circuit, know for his melodic, roots reggae style. In 1990 Carlos reunited with Black Uhuru as lead vocalist and now splits his time between touring as a solo artist and with Black Uhuru. Don is the Sunday night headliner and is sure to be a great way to close out the weekend.

The festival starts on Saturday and features over twenty more reggae acts including Warrior King, King Hopeton, Ishi Dube and more. All this is taking place on the beautiful shores of the Sacramento River at the Rio Ramaza Marina. Camping is available and the river is also boat and jet ski accessible.
