Foodie Friday: Brunch Cocktails for Mothers Day

Food & Drink >

Whether it’s your wife, mother, grandmother or friend, Mothers day is your chance to show the moms in your life how much you love and appreciate everything they do. These amazingly strong patient and beautiful women that bring us into the world are always there for us, so it’s very important we show them how special they are.

There are many traditional ways to celebrate Mothers day not the least of which is brunch. For those of you that read Foodie Friday weekly you might remember the four part series I did on brunch not that long ago. This week I thought I would give you some recipes for tasty and delicious brunch beverages. I also invite you to review “Brunch Basics” parts 1-4 to brush up and get ideas for giving the mothers in your life a wonderful experience. Enjoy!

Bloody Mary

Ingredients:
1 large can or bottle of low-sodium tomato juice (64 oz size)
4 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce (saltiness varies by brand so also add to taste)
2 tablespoons prepared horseradish
3 tablespoons of your favorite hot sauce (I like Tapatio)
1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
3 lemons, juiced
1 teaspoons celery salt
1 teaspoon minced onion (If you use dried reconstitute it with 3 tablespoons of boiling water and add it all in)
Kosher salt & fresh ground black pepper to taste
1 cup Vodka (I like Grey Goose. You can adjust the amount if desired)

Garnish:
1 small jar green olives
1 small jar pepperoncini
1 bunch of celery, washed well and trimmed to fit glasses

Celery Salt Blend:
1 teaspoon celery salt
3 tablespoons kosher salt
1/2 teaspoon granulated onion
1/2 teaspoon fresh ground black pepper

Directions:
Combine all celery salt ingredients together and place in a saucer. Combine all bloody mary ingredients in a pitcher, stir together, and allow to chill. For a non-alcoholic version leave out the vodka. This mix also goes great in a light beer such as a pilsner.

Presentation
Dip the rim of your glass into a saucer filled with a little of the mix and allow excess to drip off. Dip the rim of the glass into the celery salt blend. Fill the glass with ice and fill with bloody Mary. Garnish with celery rib, green olives, pepperoncini, and any other pickled vegetables you like, such as green beans or asparagus.

Mimosa

Ingredients:
3 ounces Champagne or any sparkling white wine
3 ounces orange juice

Directions:
To open your sparkling beverage, first remove the foil and wire guard. Hold the bottle away from yourself at a 45 degree angle and grab the cork firmly. Twist the cork gently while pushing on it. The vapor in the bottle will push the cork out if you keep the bottle at a 45 degree angle it will reduce the chance of fizzing drink spewing out. Pour it very slowly into a chilled champagne flute and allow it to settle until you have added desired amount. Gently stir with a long “bar” spoon Very slowly add your juice and serve. Garnish with a twist of orange.

Bellini

Ingredients:
3 ounces chilled prosecco
1 ounce chilled peach puree (you can find this in most grocery stores, if you cannot find it you can puree frozen peaches that you have thawed)

Directions:
Open your prosecco in the same manor mentioned in the mimosa recipe above. Pour the peach puree into the bottom of the champagne flute. Very slowly pour in your prosecco. Stir gently with a long “bar” spoon. Garnish with a twist of lemon. Once again you can substitute a non-alcoholic sparkling cider in this drink.

There you have it! Three great brunch cocktails to help you tell mother how much you love her. Remember to give her a big hug and tell her how much she means to you. She deserves it!
