Tuesday Tease: Hooray for Hollywood!

1461051_10152129697148993_692879185_nHey teasers! Hope everyone’s New Year’s was safe and celebratory.

Now that the holidays have passed and we’re settling into our normal lives again, I want to, finally, post my review of the Hollywood Burlesque Festival, which took place from December 6 to December 9. Me and fellow BPT-er Michelle went down to LA for four days of hanging with the City of Angels’ best burlesque talent. It was all brought to us courtesy of the incredible Lili Von Schtupp, the woman the LA Times dubbed “The foul-mouthed, buxom Godmother of LA burlesque!”

Lili has been ticketing her Monday Night Tease shows with us for the better part of the last decade and she’s the shining example of what’s possible with a little hard work and a deep love for your chosen art form. Lili hosts Monday Night Tease every week and somehow manages to pack ’em into The 3 Clubs show room week after week, which is no small feat for a show that’s been running for almost a decade. She also runs Lili’s School for Wayward Girls and gives new talent a safe and supportive environment within which to hone their skills. The love the community feels for Lili was more than apparent during the first ever Hollywood Burlesque Festival and I have to say, it’s well deserved.

Tuesday Tease: Barbarellesque Blasts Off in Baltimore This Sunday!

289494-250Well, last weekend was Burlycon here in Seattle and over 600 members of the “glitterati” descended upon our fair city for four days of classes, parties and networking. We were honored to host Saturday night’s hospitality suite and got a chance to chat with some old friends and meet some new friends. Unfortunately, we quickly ran out of food given the increased number of attendees but were able to send everyone off with the great earrings that we were giving away. Would love to see some shots of folks sporting the earrings. Feel free to share them on our Facebook page!

Me and fellow BPTer Michelle also taught a class on effectively ticketing a burlesque event and had a great group of fully engaged producers that not only seemed to learn a lot from the class but also brought a lot of great advice themselves. There seemed to be more of a focus on producers this year at Burlycon, which is great, as these are the folks that are going to bring the art form to new audiences through effective marketing and shows that push boundaries and expand the definition of what burlesque is.

All in all, it was a great weekend. There seemed to be a larger contingent of burlesque performers and producers from outside the Pacific Northwest than last year and one such performer/producer was Kay Sera from Baltimore-based Compound Productions 50/50.

They are producing a tribute to Barbarella, the 1968 sexy, sci-fi Jane Fonda romp, with Barbarellesque: An Ecdysiast Theatrical Experience this Sunday, November 17 at The Windup Space in Baltimore. We highly recommend that you check it out. The producers at Compound Productions 50/50 promise that this is “More than a themed show and beyond nerdlesque, this fully scripted performance follows the film’s delightfully cheesy plot and dialogue and adds even more sexy silliness with striptease and song!”

Check out the original trailer and you can already see that this movie was bound to get the burlesque treatment eventually. I’m just shocked that it hasn’t happened until now.

Tuesday Tease: Mason Dixie Burlesque Tour

MDBTLadiesImageTouring is not easy. Anyone can tell you, there’s a million things to consider when preparing for a tour and, often times, when you’re heading into a town you’ve never been before, you have no idea what awaits you.

Touring as a burlesque troupe has its own unique challenges: hauling around a ton of costumes and props, dealing with new venues and bookers and working with different burlesque troupes in different cities, who all work a little bit differently than the last.

So, our hats go off to those that can pull it off and make it seem so effortless. We’re honored to be working with the Mason Dixie Burlesque Tour for a bunch of their shows on their upcoming tour of the East Coast and Southeast and highly recommend all of you to check out their show if they’re coming to your town (Scroll down for dates and ticket links). This is world-class burlesque entertainment!

We got to sit down with the headmistress of the Mason Dixie Burlesque Tour, Miss Deanna Danger and pick her brain on the ins and outs of organizing a travelling burlesque revue. We hope this encourages all you incredible BPT burlesque producers out there to take your own show on the road. It’s a big sexy world out there, why not experience it for yourself?

So, without further ado, I give you, Deanna Danger!
